Arsenal Player Ratings

Arsenal were just awful, before and after the red card
Arsenal were just awful, before and after the red card

Bernd Leno - 6/10

Poor Leno. He was let down by an appalling defense in front of him, although there's a sense that his positioning could've been better for some of Manchester City's goals. Nonetheless, the German custodian produced some good saves, particularly from Sterling, to keep the scoreline at five.

Cedric - 3/10

Cedric assisted the second goal for Manchester City and was generally poor at both ends of the pitch.

Calum Chambers - 2/10

Arguably the worst player on the field. Manchester City had a gala time cutting through him like a knife through butter. He was beaten in the air pretty easily by Gundogan, which is truly something considering the German was one of the shortest players on the pitch, and never recovered from it thereafter.

Rob Holding - 4/10

Here's another atrocious performer for Arsenal today. He left his man for a tap-in for Manchester City's third goal and succumbed easily to their high press.

Sead Kolasinac - 5/10

Kolasinac was all at sea at the back too, but he gets a few more points than his defensive counterparts for actually putting in efforts to press and get the ball around. However, it won't be enough in the long run.

Kieran Tierney - 6/10

With the aforementioned Bosnian leaving a lot of space, the job of covering space on the left fell to Tierney, who discharged them with mixed results. Still, the Scotsman registered eight clearances and one key pass too.

Martin Odegaard - 5/10

The Norwegian started the match brightly but it didn't take long for his influence to fade. He, nevertheless, tracked back to help Arsenal defensively.

Emile Smith-Rowe - 4/10

Smith-Rowe tried his best to push forward and pose a threat when on the ball. However, it was still no match for Manchester City.

Granit Xhaka - 5/10

He kept fighting for the ball and worked hard. But one moment of madness - a rash challenge on Cancelo with his studs - ended his game prematurely.

Bukayo Saka - 5/10

Since Arsenal were pushed on the back foot for much of the game, Saka was left isolated upfront. But there were moments when he forced an issue by tracking back and then pressing Manchester City players into giving up possession to launch a counter. Suffice to say it didn't bear fruit.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 4/10

Much like Saka, he too was a passerby on the day, but with only a much lesser work-rate than the English international. To give you a hint, Aubameyang completed only six passes in 59 minutes of action.

Substitutes

Mohamed Elneny - 4/10

He drifted away from Rodri's shot which culminated in a goal for Manchester City and offered virtually nothing otherwise either.

Alexandre Lacazette - 4/10

He replaced Aubameyang hoping to bring some firepower but did nothing. Completely in no man's land.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles - 4/10

He was totally helpless about the mess unfolding around him.
