Kevin de Bruyne says Manchester City enjoyable under Pep Guardiola

The Belgian has been undertaking various roles in midfield under Guardiola

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne says new manager Pep Guardiola has offered the Citizens a "new beginning" after the Spaniard maintained his 100 percent record in the Premier League.

The Belgian attacker opened the scoring and set up the team's second goal for Kelechi Iheanacho for City in Saturday's Manchester Derby win against Manchester United at Old Trafford. It was a competitive match between the two Manchester clubs but City’s dominant first half performance helped Guardiola’s team bag all three points against his old foe Jose Mourinho.

De Bruyne, who enjoyed a decent campaign in the 2015-16 Premier League season, said the arrival of Guardiola has had an immediate impact on City.

"I think the way we try to play now is very enjoyable, especially for the attacking players, because we try to play nice football, the way we want to play," he said.

"I think maybe for some guys it's a new beginning. We have got to go a little bit away from the physical game in the Premier League because we are not as strong as other teams. We know that, so we try to dominate them with the way we want to play."

The 25-year-old says he is enjoying his role under Guardiola, having contributed a goal and two assists in the Premier League this season.

De Bruyne also spoke about the coach's playing style, "Football isn't easy," De Bruyne said, "Obviously everybody has his own style and you need to adapt to it, but I think everyone is working really hard - even the guys coming in, they do it perfectly.

"At the moment it is very positive, so we just have to try to keep it in this flow."

The 2014-15 Bundesliga Player of the Year was City's most expensive signing last season after The Blues of Manchester paid £54 million to acquire his services. De Bruyne was impressive as he guided City to their first ever Champions League semi-final but the Blues endured a disappointing Premier League season narrowly pipping the Red Devils on goal difference.

"Last year for me was great," De Bruyne said, reflecting on his start to life at City.

"Obviously we had some slip-ups here and there, but overall I had a good year. I am just trying to build on it.

Man City now face Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League tomorrow before hosting the Cherries at the Etihad on Saturday.
