Rumour: Manchester City expected to announce Fernando’s £16m signing this week

Fernando is expected to finalise his switch to City in the coming days

The midfielder's proposed move to the Etihad fell through in January but boss Manuel Pellegrini was eager to get the deal over the line this time around

City are believed to have agreed an initial fee of £12million with Porto for the midfielder with another £4million in add-ons.

The Blues have been tracking the 26-year-old Fernando for the best part of a year and tried to land him in January

Fernando is expected to fly to Manchester to complete his medical and agree terms before officially becoming a City player.

His impending arrival ensures that the champions have made the quick start to strengthening Manuel Pellegrini’s squad that the manager, and Txiki Begiristain, the director of football, desire. It will be a difficult summer to operate in due to the constrictions of Uefa’s financial fair play (FFP) sanctions and the disruption caused by the World Cup, which begins in Brazil on Thursday
