What’s the story?

Manchester City aim to be the best club in the world and they are not willing to settle without achieving it! The Cityzens are planning for the next transfer already and have now set sights on a Real Madrid superstar. Cristiano? No.

According to reports in the Express, Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he wants to sign Isco in the next summer transfer window. The former Barcelona manager has been a long time admirer of the Spaniard and is keen on getting him as David Silva's replacement.

In case you didn’t know...

This is not the first time Isco has been linked with a move to Manchester City. The Spaniard was an odds-on favourite to sign for the Etihad side when he was at Malaga.

Then Malaga manager, Manuel Pellegrini has just moved to City and was tipped to bring the midfielder with him. However, just as City were making progress in their talks with Malaga, Real Madrid stole him.

The heart of the matter

Isco was on the verge of leaving Bernabeu 12 months ago as Zinedine Zidane was keeping him on the bench in favour of Marco Asensio and Gareth Bale. The Spaniard did not give up and made it back into the starting XI y January and has not let the others throw him out.

He was rewarded for his performances with a new contract that saw his release clause rise up to €700 million. Manchester City, however, are confident that they can sign him for a lot less and also manage to convince him t make the switch.

Author’s Take

It's difficult to see Isco leaving Madrid any time soon. Manchester City are exciting and all, but the fact that he's guaranteed a trophy, the chance to play with the best and also gets to learn from Zidane will keep him at Bernabeu for years to come!
