Hello and Welcome to the daily Manchester City Transfer corner.

As we head towards the end of the January transfer window, the defending Premier League Champions have already lost one of their key targets to a European side, and with Pep Guardiola suggesting a quiet transfer market, they could lose more players before the curtains are down on January 31st.

Hence without delaying further, let's look at what's today's edition of transfer round up has in store for us.

Pep Guardiola has spent fortunes on the full back positions during his second season at the club.

He sold the likes of Zabaleta, Sagna, Clichy, and Kolarov and replaced them with Walker, Danilo, and Mendy.

However, he had to play Delph as the makeshift left-back for the best part of the two seasons due to ongoing injuries to Benjamin Mendy.

According to the London Evening Standard, City is preparing a bid for Leicester City's left full-back, Ben Chilwell as an alternative to Mendy in the summer. Though Delph has put in a decent shift as a makeshift defender Pep Guardiola wants a natural left back to play in that position.

Speaking about Mendy, Guardiola said -

"We can use him more, that's what I want"
“He just needs to be focused, be focused in your job, in what you have to do, because you have incredible potential, you are young, you can be one of the best-left backs, but it depends on you"

Pep even praised Mendy's work ethic and the liveliness he brings in the dressing room. The Frenchman loved by all the players and staffs and keeps the team spirit high.

Fabian Delph has struggled in some of the recent games this season which makes Chilwell an ideal candidate to stand in for Mendy whenever he is injured.
