Pep Guardiola has spent fortunes on the full back positions during his second season at the club.

He sold the likes of Zabaleta, Sagna, Clichy, and Kolarov and replaced them with Walker, Danilo, and Mendy.

However, he had to play Delph as the makeshift left-back for the best part of the two seasons due to ongoing injuries to Benjamin Mendy.

According to the London Evening Standard, City is preparing a bid for Leicester City's left full-back, Ben Chilwell as an alternative to Mendy in the summer. Though Delph has put in a decent shift as a makeshift defender Pep Guardiola wants a natural left back to play in that position.

Speaking about Mendy, Guardiola said -

"We can use him more, that's what I want"
“He just needs to be focused, be focused in your job, in what you have to do, because you have incredible potential, you are young, you can be one of the best-left backs, but it depends on you"

Pep even praised Mendy's work ethic and the liveliness he brings in the dressing room. The Frenchman loved by all the players and staffs and keeps the team spirit high.

Fabian Delph has struggled in some of the recent games this season which makes Chilwell an ideal candidate to stand in for Mendy whenever he is injured.

After missing out on Frenkie De Jong, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have emerged as the primary bidder for his national teammate, Matthijs de Ligt.

The 19-year-old defender regarded as one of the top talents in the Netherlands, and along with City, clubs like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Juventus are also keeping an eye on the youngster.

Manchester City already has four established center backs, but with Kompany's injury problems and age against his side, the acquisition of Matthijs de Ligt would undoubtedly add more depth to the squad.
