De Jong attracted interest from some European clubs which included Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain as well.

However, Valverde didn't like the way City approached the player over a possible transfer. In an interview, he said

"Talking to a player who is under contract with another team is something that can't be done,"
"You can't talk to a player who is under contract and that's something that isn't in my personal code but suffice to say, everyone has their own way of acting."

When my brother leaves Manchester United, there are only three clubs he can go to improve: City, Real Madrid or Barça. He's not going to go to City, so he'll come to Spain: to Barça or Madrid
