Manchester City's UEFA Champions League game abandoned after torrential rains

Heavy rain in Manchester

The game between Manchester City and Borussia mönchengladbach has been cancelled due to heavy rains in Manchester which has the left the field in unplayable conditions. The game was supposed to kick off at 12:15 IST on 14th September.

It is unclear when the game will be played next but it will most likely be tomorrow night. But so far there are no updates. Several fans travelled from Germany to watch their team face off against the Blues but they might have to go back empty handed this week.

City have been drawn in what they have termed as the ‘Group of Death’ alongside the likes of Barcelona and Celtic. Guardiola will come up against his former team, whom he lead to UEFA Champions League glory twice.

The ground has been declared as too wet to play on by the UEFA officials which is a real pity. Manchester is known for having rainfall, but today it was exceptionally heavy.Re-scheduling will mean a shorter gap between the UCL and the domestic league for the two teams.

It might become a little strenuous for both teams, more so for Gladbach because of the travelling they have to do. Officials willl meet with both the teams today to discuss when they should play the match

Here’s a tweet from City’s account showing the extent of the rain:

City not ready for the Champions League: Guardiola

Guardiola believes City are not ready to compete with the big boys in the Champions League. The manager feels the club are progressing well but need time to improve, something that will happen over the course of this season.

“Until now in the Premier League it has been okay, but to compete against the best clubs in Europe, in this moment with the way we are playing, we are not able to."We have played, not all of the games, but part of most of the games at a high level, and of course we have to continue”

"If you ask me whether we are ready to compete in Europe, we are not ready. We create, but in front we need more. But it is just two months together, so we have time to get better.”

Guardiola hasn’t won the Champions league since his time with Barcelona. Several even consider his stint with Bayern a failure. Will he do it with City?
