Manchester United

David De Gea: 5/10

The great wall of Manchester was breached twice on the night. De Gea had no chance for the first but should have done better for the second. He also made one fine one on one save late in the game.

Antonio Valencia: 6/10

Valencia looked comfortable in defending but hardly made any difference going forward. United missed his directness and his pace in the other half.

Eric Bailly: 5/10

The Ivorian made a series of blocks and interceptions in the first half but faded as the game went on. Bailly should have done better in the buildup to the first goal where he lost an aerial battle with Correa.

Chris Smalling: 5/10

Smalling made a strong start to the game but just as the entire United side, looked anxious in the final half hour. The center-back made unnecessary fouls, was loose in possession and also missed a couple of chances to score at the other end.

Ashley Young: 4/10

Young looked to be in a hangover after the high of a stunning outing against Liverpool. He was susceptible at the back and had no influence whatsoever going forward.

Nemanja Matic: 6/10

Matic did his job effectively that was asked of him but showed signs of fatigue in the final quarter of the match. He was defensively strong, made decent passes but lacked the cover provided by Scott Mctominay in recent weeks.

Marouane Fellaini: 5/10

A surprise starter, Fellaini looked sluggish with his passing but provided a decent physical outlet for his side. The Belgian also had a brilliant chance in the first half.

Jesse Lingard: 5/10

Lingard delivered a performance which showed great fight but lacked any real intent. He displayed tremendous work rate but lacked any output. Lingard drifted inside from the left but had little space to find an opening in the final third.

Marcus Rashford: 6/10

The youngster was the only United player that brought any urgency to their play. Rashford took on players at will but lacked the final touch to trouble Sevilla. His understanding with Lukaku also looked a bit off as the duo never seemed to be on the same page.

Alexis Sanchez: 3/10

Manchester United v Sevilla FC - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Second Leg
Dismal outing for the Chilean

Wasteful and zero creativity in the final third. This was Sanchez's performance summed up in a sentence as the Chilean was as ineffective as it gets. He was supposed to be the final piece of the jigsaw for United but proved to be a liability against Sevilla.

Romelu Lukaku: 7/10

Lukaku's hold up play was brilliant on the night but his first touch let him down at times. But he fought hard for the cause and was rewarded with a goal late in the game.

Substitutions

Paul Pogba: 5/10

Coming back from an injury, Pogba looked off the pace at times which was epitomized by his below-par passing. It was not a good return for the Frenchman who is running out of excuses for his average performances this season.

Juan Mata: 7/10

The Spaniard looked threatening in his short cameo and showed more creativity than the attacking quartet that started the game. Mourinho missed a big trick by not starting Mata.

Anthony Martial: 6/10

Martial used the flank to his advantage and dragged the Sevilla defenders out but ultimately had far less time to create the desired impact.
