The start of the 2018-19 season was exceptional for Eddie Howe’s men as they were constantly hovering in the top half of the Premier League table. However, they lost steam since November as they could win just two out of 11 fixtures in the past two months. The growing injuries and poor form have hampered their good start.

Their slide has matched with a sequence of severe injuries to many of their vital players, with their captain Simon Francis the latest to be ruled out for months.

However, there is no excuse for their defensive frailties in the last game. While the left-back failed to block Rashford from running into the box to provide an assist for the 1st goal, Pogba was completely left unmarked for the 2nd goal.

Howe would be hoping to bring some defensive stability into the team during the winter transfer window.
