What’s the story?

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are interested in signing Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey in the summer. Mourinho is apparently a huge fan of the Wales international, who has 7 goals and 7 assists in 21 games this season.

In case you didn’t know

Ramsey, who has another season left in his contract with the Gunners, had the chance to join Manchester United as a youngster but chose to sign for the Gunners instead. He has been at the club for a decade, but his contractual issues might make him leave the club.

Heart of the matter

The Welshman, who is also being chased by Chelsea, revealed a few days ago that his contract was not the top priority for the Emirates outfit. In response to being asked whether he was down on the priority list, he said with a smile: “Yeah, I think so.”

According to the same report, Mourinho believes that Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez are “killing the team” and sees Ramsey as the perfect box-to-box player to help resurge the struggling side. With all these factors combining, Ramsey might have to make a decision in the summer.

Rumour rating: 5/10

The Daily Star aren’t entirely reliable and have been inaccurate in the past. The other reason for giving this a low rating is that if Mourinho really wanted an all-action box-to-box player in the team, he could just play Paul Pogba in that role to devastating effect.

Author’s take

With the summer transfer window coming in at full speed, it is only natural to see such rumours circling around the web. Aaron Ramsey isn’t the type of player that Jose Mourinho would want. Indeed, if anything, United’s list of potential midfield targets might have the Welshman’s name at the very end of it.
