Giggs is the assistant manager at Old Trafford

Manchester united assistant manager Ryan Giggs could leave Old Trafford to take over the vacant Swansea managerial position.

Swansea who are currently 15th in the Premier League table are clearly struggling and as a result have sacked manager Gary Monk on Wednesday. Now they are open to the idea of speaking to Giggs about managing the team.

Giggs’ only experience as manager came when he took charge of the club’s last four games of the 2013-14 season, after David Moyes lost his job. He has been a member of the club’s coaching staff for two and a half years and is also the front runner to take over from current manager Louis Van Gaal when his contract runs out at the end of 2016-17 season but is prepared to sacrifice the opportunity to become a manager elsewhere.

The chairman of Swansea Huw Jenkins who has previously appointed young managers like Roberto Martinez, Paulo Sousa and Brendan Rodgers, is understood to want a manager with Premier League experience and the ability to earn instant respect in the dressing room.

Giggs who holds the record for playing the highest number of Premier League matches was well received by the players when he took over from Moyes. The Welshman has been with United for almost 30 years now and is the club's all time appearance holder as well as its most decorated player.

The 40-year old is among four “World class” players former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had managed. After Van Gaal was announced as the new manager of United, Giggs was appointed as his assistant in May,2014.

Giggs’s former United teammates Paul Scholes and Phil Neville were offered the managerial jobs at Oldham and Brighton after they finished their roles at Old Trafford last year. Another of Giggs’s former teammate Gary Neville was named manager of Valencia last week.
