Rumour: Manchester United ready to spend on Kevin de Bruyne; Dortmund, Wolfsburg also interested

Sunderland v Chelsea - Capital One Cup Quarter-Final

Kevin De Bruyne on the way out?

Reports suggest Manchester United are set to splash the cash on Chelsea youngster Kevin de Bruyne who has been seldom used by the London outfit. The Belgian who has an inflated £25m price-tag is high on David Moyes’s list after failing to lure all his top transfer targets in this window.

Moyes wanted to sign De Bruyne when he was at Everton, but Chelsea snapped the talented youngster for £7m from Racing Genk. The Belgian spent more than a year on loan, earlier with his former club Genk and recently with German club Werder Bremen where he had an excellent season, owing to his recall to the Chelsea first team. But the 22 year old youngster has yet to make an impact on the Blues boss Jose Mourinho, and finds first team opportunities come far and few in between.

He has started only 2 games for Chelsea this season, last of which came in late August. The Belgian works well out wide and thus could make an impact on an ailing United squad which needs improvement in almost all the areas. The wingers of the Manchester club have yet to make the contribution expected of them, specially considering their winger-centric game, with Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia all flattering to deceive.

De Bruyne also has made his desire known to get more game-time because this being the World Cup year and he won’t make the German squad from Chelsea’s bench and beyond.

His agent De Koster said: “This year is the year of the World Cup and for this reason that Kevin had to keep playing.”

A £25m bid, is one which Chelsea are more than willing to accept for a player that they don’t consider to have made it to the first team, at-least just not as yet. German club Wolfsburg are said to be in negotiations with the London club, with De Bruyne’s agent recently spotted at Wolfsburg’s training ground.

Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund, who have recently confirmed that they will lose Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer to Bayern Munich are also rumoured to be interested.
