Manchester United have been linked with a move for Ajax defender Stefano Denswil. The 20-year-old has seen contract talks with the Dutch side break down and so will be available for a reduced fee in January, reported by the Metro to be as little as £5 million. Denswil has made 12 appearances for the Amsterdam club this season, and is a quick, powerful central defender.

Denswil made his debut for the club in November 2012, going on to make four appearances for the club over the course of last season. He has completed his breakthrough into the first team this season, making 12 league appearances for Frank De Boer’s side.

However talks over a new contract have reached a deadlock over the players wage demands, meaning that it is likely that he could be sold in January. Whilst United are not in immediate need of a centre back, it is believed that they have been tempted by the fact that Denswil is one of the shining lights of Dutch football.

David Moyes is reportedly prepared to allow the powerful defender to return to Ajax on loan if he were to move in January, in a deal that echoes last year’s arrangement with Crystal Palace over Wilfried Zaha.
