Manchester United are the best-paid football team in the world

The money paid on wages and on transfer fees in modern football is mind boggling. Some of the biggest clubs around the globe pay hefty money to their stars. According to a global survey, Manchester United have the highest wage bill in football amounting to a whopping £5.7m a year on average.

The survey considered over 10,000 sportsmen at over 300 teams in 17 of the richest leagues around the globe.

Manchester United possess one of the most talented squads in Europe and they pay huge amounts to their players. The likes of Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and David De Gea receive bags of cash each week.

World record signing, Paul Pogba, is the highest paid player at the club and earns £290,000 per week followed by Manchester United skipper, Wayne Rooney who earns close to £260,000 per week and another summer signing, Zlatan Ibrahimovic who earns £220,000 per week.

David de Gea and Bastian Schweinsteiger also add significantly to the wage bill with earnings of £200,000 per week.

NBA rules the roost

Due to the fall in the value of the British pound and new TV deals, two of the world's top three richest teams salary-wise are now NBA teams, with the third being the Major League Baseball giants, New York Yankees.

Manchester United are the fourth best-paid team on the planet while Barcelona are the fifth highest in world sport and second best-paid football team on the planet, averaging £5.60million a year and £109,000 a week per player, Lionel Messi being the highest earner at the club.

Manchester City with £5.4 million a year, £104,000 a week take the third spot and home of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and James Rodriguez, Real Madrid are the fourth best-paid team in world football.

With NBA topping the charts with two of the best-paid teams in the sporting world, American basketball is now considered to be the world’s best-paying sport.

5 Premier League teams in top 10 best-paid teams in football

English Premier League is the best-paid league in the footballing world with an average basic first team pay of £2,432,275. Premier league also boasts 5 teams in the best-paid teams in football with Manchester United topping the charts followed by their rivals Manchester City at third behind Barcelona. Chelsea sit in the fifth spot with Arsenal at ninth and Liverpool taking the tenth spot.

Also, with the £5.1 billion TV deal, Premier League clubs have enormous financial resources, which they showcased in the summer transfer window which collectively crossed the billion mark on transfers.

Manchester United also boast the costliest footballing squad on the planet worth £522.4m leaving behind La Liga giants, Real Madrid(£513.3 million) and Manchester City(£454.4 million).

The survey conducted by Global Sports Salary Survey included several footballing leagues around the globe - NBA, NFL, NHL, IPL and a few others.
