Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has expressed his disappointment after the former Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal failed to give him first team opportunities in the 2015-16 season. The 20-year-old moved to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven in 2011 and spent three years with the youth system. He made his first team appearance in August 2014 when the Premier League giants, suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Milton Keynes Dons in the second round of the League Cup.

At the end of that season, Pereira committed his future to the Red Devils by signing a new contract, that will keep him with the current employers until the summer of 2018. After signing a new deal, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager assured him a shot at the first team.

However, Pereira was overlooked and not given a regular chance to impress in United’s first team in the previous campaign. The Brazil Under-20 international is disappointed with Van Gaal’s treatment towards him.

"Of course, I was disappointed (last season). I wanted to play," Pereira told Beyond The Pitch. "Every player wants to play and I was disappointed I couldn't play more minutes. I trusted the manager and it didn't happen as I wanted it to but that's life and I'll learn from that as well.

"Maybe he (Van Gaal) was honest with me, but during the season a lot of things happened. I couldn't say he's a bad coach. I think he's a very good coach, but unfortunately, he couldn't keep his word to me about that."

Van Gaal guided United towards the FA Cup triumph after they defeated Crystal Palace in the final in May. Just days after that, he was relieved from his and replaced by Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Since the Portuguese tactician was appointed as United manager, the English club have added four quality players to their side, which includes a world-record signing of Paul Pogba. This saw Pereira struggle to find a place in the starting lineup.

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager allowed Pereira to leave United on loan as he completed a switch to Granada. The midfielder was impressed with Mourinho’s honesty.

"Now it's different. I spoke with Mourinho and he was honest with me and that's what I like,” he added.
