Reports: Manchester United to make stunning move for PSG superstar this week

Watford v Manchester United - Premier League
This could be exactly who Jose Mourinho is looking for!

What's the story?

Jose Mourinho, in a much merrier mood after the dismantling of Everton by his lads on New Year's day, is on the prowl for a suitable candidate to brighten up 2018 even further.

Having looked around at his squad and noticed the obvious lack of a winger who can hug the touchline and put in a telling cross, he's gone to Paris-Saint Germain's stables and picked out Lucas Moura as the perfect buy this January.

In fact, as per the folk over at the Sun, he just wants to loan out the out-of-favour Brazilian winger for the remaining half of the season.

In case you didn't know

PSG, though, are in no mood to hand out freebies to a direct Champions League rival and will let their lad go on loan only if United commit to a permanent deal worth around £40 million next summer.

United, of course, famously tries to get the then up-and-coming Lucas in 2012 but were beaten to it by PSG - who signed the then 20-year-old from Sao Paolo for a stunning £38 million.

The heart of the matter

Lucas is a PSG veteran, having played 212 times for PSG, scoring 44 goals and winning the Ligue 1 title 4 times, but he's never really reached the potential that had had everyone in Europe scrambling for his signature. Still a master dribbler of the ball, his quality at the end, in terms of either delivery is though a little suspect

Author's Take

Lucas would be a great buy for United because,

a) he would fit in perfectly into the hole that United's attack have, the lack of a natural wide player who is comfortable on the right flank

b) he has a lot to prove, and if he does do well at United, he could make a great case for an inclusion Tite's World Cup squad.

c) he'd be on loan, and on the cheap even if United were to commit to a long-term deal.
