Why Manchester United must sign this “next Xavi”

Koke

Things always gets overblown when a young player, quite unknown to the home land, gets linked to a big club; the media gets ready to asses him even before there might be any strong suggestions that the player himself might be interested in the move at all. The rumour mill, time and again, loves to thrive and gallop in bringing the latest rumours, even though, as of now, the January transfer window is quite distant. There are only occasional threads of truth in these so called ‘rumours’ but doesn’t everyone love to read this same ‘yellow journalism’ just in case of his club being linked to the next big star? As Soccernomics rightly pointed out, football fans are polygamists in their own accord.

Talking about major rumours, Manchester United boss David Moyes is expected to be given a major transfer bounty which would enable him to buy whom he wants. United’s transfer failings in the summer have been ridiculed and laughed upon in the past few months, and eyebrows were raised and conclusions jumped to, after their miserable start to the campaign. If United need to retain their Premier League title, it’s going to be very hard work for them, but let us just analyze their transfer target Koke from Atletico Madrid.

With Sir Alex gone, the fear factor has disappeared for the opposition teams even when they come to Old Trafford. The Red Devils have also lacked creativity in midfield, and they are missing a Scholesque player who can dictate play from the deep. Moyes just managed to buy Maroune Fellaini on the deadline day. But it looks like they need more than Fellaini in their midfield. So who should United sign?

If there is perhaps only one player who fits the bill perfectly according to United’s requirements, it has to be the young Koke from Atletico Madrid. Tipped as the future Xavi, the young man is brilliant on the ball, is very versatile as he can play in a number of positions across midfield, is very hard-working and most importantly is very consistent, something which is so rare to see in someone of his age.

Atletico have had a sublime start to the season and much of the credit goes to Koke who has a great final pass and is no longer seen as someone with a promising future, but as a benchmark of the academy.

Currently in this campaign he has more assists than Neymar and an equal number to Fabregas, and guess what: his transfer clause is reported to be at 16m which is a significantly cheaper fee considering the state of the transfer market nowadays. While transfer rumours are also viewed with doubt, if at all Koke signs for United, it will be a magnificent buy for United and Moyes in particular.
