Manchester United released their accounts for the last three months on Thursday and reveals that the club paid £19.6 million to sack their former manager Jose Mourinho.

In case you didn't know...

Jose Mourinho took charge at Manchester United in 2016 and won one EFL Cup, one FA Community Sheild along with one Europa League trophy during his two-and-half-year tenure at the Old Trafford.

However, the Red Devils started the current season poorly, which subsequently led to the sacking of the Portuguese manager. Former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as his replacement for the rest of the season and the Norwegian has done a great job so far for the club.

The Red Devils are currently fourth in the Premier League table and are yet to lose a league game under Solskjaer.

The heart of the matter

Manchester United released their accounts for the second quarter of the financial year on Thursday and revealed that the club spent £19.6 million to sack Jose Mourinho and his staff in December.

Listed as an "exceptional item" in their latest accounts - which were later revealed by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward during a conference call - a £19.6m fee related to sacking Mourinho and his backroom staff, which included senior goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro, opposition scout Ricardo Formosinho, fitness coaches Stefano Rapetti and Carlos Lalin and analyst Giovanni Cera.

The Red Devils reported revenue of £208.6 for the second quarter of the financial and are forecasting annual revenue to be between £615-630 million pounds.

What's next?

The Red Devils will face Chelsea away in the FA Cup next, before hosting Liverpool at the Old Trafford for the Premier League fixture on February 24.

Whereas, Jose Mourinho has been without a job ever since leaving United.
