What's the story?

Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard has lifted the lid on what the caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær tells the players before they head out of the tunnel for a competitive game. According to the Englishman, what the Norwegian says is almost congruent to what he would pass on when he was the reserves' team coach.

In case you didn't know...

Solskjær has enjoyed a surprisingly remarkable time so far at Old Trafford, perhaps even better than what the most optimistic of fans would have dreamt of. With nine wins and a draw in 10 games, the baby-faced assassin has steered his side within two points of Chelsea, who are pitted in 4th place.

Also to mention, Lingard was a part of the reserves team spearheaded by the present gaffer. In fact, the 26-year-old also remembers the time when he was called up to represent the team in the final match of the season as a 17-year-old.

The heart of the matter

In this period where United are soaring, Lingard has revealed what the manager tells all the players, while speaking to the Telegraph. He said:

"He [Solskjaer] said 'Enjoy the game'. He still tells us that now (referring to the time when Solksjaer was in charge of the reserves). 'Play with a smile on your face, play attacking football and win the game."

The England international, much like his most of his teammates, has seen a steep rise in his form and lavished praise on his manager for the same. Lingard had earlier remarked:

"He [Solskjaer] has just brought attacking football back again. You know he's been there and done that, he's lived through it, he's been at Manchester United for years and years, so he knows how a Manchester United team should play. He's lived through all that and experienced it, and Mike Phelan as well - he's been great since he's come in."

He added:

"He's made the players realise what it means to be at Manchester United, and to put that shirt on. Everything is just clicking at the moment."

What's next?

After a league fixture against Fulham, Manchester United will need more of these motivational words from their boss as they prepare to lock horns with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, before taking on Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
