Manchester United Transfer News: Inter Milan wants to make United striker first signing of the Conte era
What's the story?
In case you didn't know...
Inter Milan reportedly will announce Antonio Conte as their new manager shortly. He will replace Luciano Spalletti. The former Juventus boss won numerous league titles in Italy with the Bianconeri and also won the Premier League during his tenure at Chelsea. Inter are currently 4th in Serie A but they risk losing out on the Champions League spot on the last matchday.
Manchester United bought Romelu Lukaku for £75 million in 2017. Since his arrival, the Belgian forward has netted 42 goals for the Red Devils but he has been struggling in front of goal lately. Lukaku scored just 15 goals in all competitions in the current campaign and failed to find the net in his last eight games this season.
Moreover, the Belgian striker remains below down the pecking order under Ole Gunner Solskjaer due to the powerful performances of Marcus Rashford. Last month, Lukaku stated that a move to Serie A will be a dream.
Speaking in an interview, the Manchester United ace said (via Sky Sports):
"Playing in Serie A is a dream, it would be really a dream. I hope to be able to play sooner or later, even if at the moment I am focused on the United."
The heart of the matter
According to reports, Conte's first target is Romelu Lukaku and Manchester United has already received €30 million plus Ivan Perisic for the star forward. It is no secret that Conte admires Lukaku, as he wanted to sign him for Chelsea back in 2017.
The current deal is approximately worth around €65 million. Although the Red Devils have been linked with Perisic before, the Croatian is already 30. There is no doubt that the United hierarchy wants to revamp the squad with reinforcements, but it remains to be seen whether they will let Lukaku go for Perisic.
It is likely Lukaku decides to move out for more minutes on the pitch, but United will certainly require the maximum price for their striker.
