What’s the story?

Real Madrid are in desperate need of a striker and they are ready to break the bank to get on. The Spanish giants are not too keen on continuing with Karim Benzema up front and have made a move to sign another striker this month.

As per reports in the Diario GOL, Real Madrid have held a secret medical for Mauro Icardi in Milan. They also report that the Argentine striker will be the final signing in January.

In case you didn’t know…

Icardi has a £99 million (€110 million) release clause in his current contract at Inter Milan according to Calcio Mercato. The Italian side are keen on getting him tied down with a new contract that would increase his wages and his release clause.

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid have held a secret medical for Icardi according to the report in Diario Gol. The Spanish side need to activate his £99 million release clause to do so, and it is believed that it is done.

Apart from Real Madrid, Chelsea (according to The Sun) and Manchester United (according to Don Balon) were also linked with a move for Icardi.

Author’s Take

Icardi would be a brilliant signing for Real Madrid. The Argentine is clinical in front of goals, something Benzema isn't right now. The Fans have been literally begging for a new striker to replace Benzema and they seem to have got one.

Alvaro Morata was tipped to replace him but the Spaniard wasn't able to convince Zidane that he was capable of leading the line for Los Blancos. The striker was eventually sold to Chelsea in the summer and that left Madrid with just Benzema as the experienced striker in the squad.

He has failed to deliver more often than not in the last 12 months and even of Icardi manages to settle in well, the Real Madrid fans would be pleased.
