Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov both scored a penalty each in a comfortable 2-0 win against Stoke at Old Trafford. United claimed their 4th league win in a row, the same day in which former red Darren Gibson scored the winner against leaders City to help MUFC go joint top.

Stoke started brightly and looked sharp on the break with Jon Walters going close before Kenwyne Jones just missed the target.

There was a surprise before the match with young Ben Amos called up for his Premiership debut, after Anders Lindegaard was injured and David De Gea reported ill. The 21 year old was solid when called upon and looked very composed. A clean sheet on his debut.

MUFC took the lead through a Javier Hernandez penalty. Park Ji Sung was fouled in the area by Jermaine Pennant after a flowing move and a spot kick was awarded. Chicharito made no mistake by sending the keeper the wrong way.

Into the second half and MUFC got their second penalty. Antonio Valencia was pulled back by Jon Walters in the box which resulted in a penalty.

This time, Dimitar Berbatov stepped up and slammed the penalty past the despairing dive of Thomas Sorensen.

Then on the hour, came a memorable moment, and it wasn’t even at Old Trafford! Former red Darren Gibson, who left earlier this month to join Everton, scored a goal, which turned out to be the winner against City. Within minutes, the crowd at Old Trafford, after realising what had happened, started chanting the former red’s name.

On 72 minutes, the moment that most MUFC fans were waiting for has arrived, Paul Pogba came on for Javier Hernandez for his Premier League debut.

After Ravel Morrison had left MUFC to join West Ham on transfer deadline day, hopes on the french men has increased. Pogba, exchanging passes with Scholes like he’d always been there in the first team showed that he is the star for the future.

In other news, with Ravel Morrison leaving on a permanent transfer, the champions had one arrival on deadline day.

Manchester United completed the deadline-day signing of defensive prospect Frederic Veseli from neighbours Manchester City. Veseli captained his country to victory in the Under 17s World Cup in 2009 and got his first taste of senior football during City’s pre-season tour of North America last summer.

A versatile, cultured defender who is comfortable on the ball, Veseli arrived at Eastlands in 2008 from Lausanne Sport in his homeland, and has been tipped to eventually develop into a central midfielder. Let’s hope he makes it big!
