Poland Player Ratings

Kamil Jozwiak was one of Poland's better players on the night
Kamil Jozwiak was one of Poland's better players on the night

Wojciech Szczesny - 6/10

He didn't really have much of a chance of stopping the Dutch goal, because it was so well worked. He made a big save top stop Memphis from scoring, after the forward as one-on-one thanks to an aerial pass from van Dijk that caught out the Polish defence.

Tomasz Kedziora - 5/10

He didn't really block out the space that both Ake and Promes were attacking, and that meant the Dutch always had an out-ball even if they were being faced by the Poland press in midfield.

Kamil Glik - 7/10

He was almost a ball magnet at the heart of the Polish defence. His experience showed in this game, as he read the play wonderfully well to nip some Dutch attacks in the bud. Glik was also powerful in their air, and that was important to repel the several crosses that Netherlands put into the box on the night.

Jan Bednarek - 6/10

Like Glik, Bednarek was outstanding in the air as well. But he sometimes was guilty of committing a few too many fouls that allowed the Dutch to seize control of the game.

Bartosz Bereszynski - 6/10

The Polish left-back did well to contain Bergwijn for most of the game, but was caught out by Hateboer for the game's decisive moment, as De Jong managed to play the ball over the heads of the Polish defenders.

Grzegorz Krychowiak - 6/10

The veteran put in a steady shift in midfield. He was also definitely helped by the fact that Wijnaldum was not getting too involved in the game.

Mateusz Klich - 7/10

The Leeds man was almost everywhere on the pitch. Pressing the Dutch defenders, not giving the midfielders time on the ball, closing down space of the attacker - Klich did it all.

Piotr Zielinski - 6/10

He played in a more advanced role behind the striker. and that meant that he should've been able to find pockets of space and the link up with PIatek. But he was well-marshalled by De Roon throughout the game.

Sebastian Szymanski - 5/10

He was non-existent as an attacking entity on the Polish right-flank. He also didn't really track Ake down when the Dutch full-back was making his forward runs.

Kamil Jozwiak - 7/10

His work-rate and desire was unmatched by the rest of his team-mates. Hateboer and Bergwijn could never really get their combination play going, only because Joswiak covered so much ground down that flank.

Krzystof Piatek - 5/10

He had Poland's best chance of the game, but he hit his shot straight at Cillessen. For the rest of the game, he was bullied by van Dijk as the Dutch captain barely broke a sweat in defending him.

Substitutes

Arkadiusz Milik - 5/10

He came on to replace Piatek, but unfortunately for Poland, Milik was even more peripheral to the game, and barely had an consequential touches in the game.

Kamil Grosicki - 5/10

He is blessed with enough pace for him to have been more of an influence on the counter-attack than he was in this game.

Jakub Moder - N/A

He didn't really have enough time on the pitch to impact the game in any way.
