Newcastle's French revolution surges on as Nancy confirms Haidara deal

As reported earlier, Alan Pardew seems poised to strengthen Newcastle’s French connection with the signing of yet another talent from across the Channel in Massadio Haidara. French media reported earlier today that Newcastle have come to an agreement with Nancy for the transfer of the talented 20-year-old left-back.

The deal has been reported to be about €3.5million (£2.9m) which if completed, would make Haidara the third French player to join Newcastle United in the January transfer and 7th Frenchman in the Newcastle team with Debuchy, Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, Marveaux and Obertan already there while Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is also reportedly poised to join the Toon.

A Nancy statement read: “After 46 games and two-and-a-half years in the Nancy shirt, Massadio Haidara is leaving his former club for Newcastle United, currently 16th in the Premier League.

“The two clubs have reached an agreement and will finalise the transfer on Tuesday.”

The transfer should provide Davide Santon with good competition for the left-back berth where he has been found wanting in some games with regards to his defensive duties.
