Alan Shearer believes Tottenham fans won
Alan Shearer believes Tottenham fans won't hold a grudge against Harry Kane if he leaves the club in the summer.

Former England striker Alan Shearer has stated that Tottenham Hotspur fans won't hold a grudge against Harry Kane if he decided to move to a different club in the summer.

Kane is in the final 14 months of his current contract and it has been heavily rumoured that this is his final season with the north London side. While he has made his mark at Spurs, becoming the Premier League's all-time second-highest goal-scorer, he is yet to lift a single trophy at his boyhood club.

The 29-year-old, who finished as the 2020 UEFA Euro runner-up with England, has scored 278 goals and provided 64 assists in 434 matches for Tottenham so far.

Kane was in action on Saturday, May 20, as Spurs went from 1-0 up to lose 3-1 against Brentford. Speaking after the match, Newcastle United legend Shearer stated that the club's fans would be disappointed if the striker moved on to a different club in the summer.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live:

"If Kane did wave goodbye today, Spurs fans would be disappointed but I think he would go with their understanding because of what he has done for the club."

He added:

"It has been tough this season and he has just been unbelievable - we probably haven't spoken enough about how good he has been because of the achievements of Erling Haaland at Manchester City."

Despite the lack of trophies in his cabinet, Shearer expects Kane to stay with Spurs for the rest of his career. He told Football Focus:

"I think because of the love he has for Tottenham and that he's been there for tough times, I just see him seeing his career out there. I get the accusation that he hasn't won a trophy but those goals and those records he has set are his trophies. That's why I see him staying at Tottenham."

Harry Kane has been at his prolific best this season, scoring 28 goals in the league and picking up three assists. Despite his efforts, Spurs sit in eighth spot in the table and look unlikely to qualify for the Europa League.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, as the Red Devils are expected to be in the market for a striker. Antony Martial's injury troubles and Wout Weghorst's failure to impress in his loan spell have pushed Erik ten Hag's side to look for a permanent solution to their striking woes.

"What a sad way to go out" - Peter Crouch and Dimitar Berbatov give their take on Harry Kane's Tottenham future

Speaking on the same BBC program, former Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch stated that Harry Kane deserves to play in the UEFA Champions League. He also said that Kane would be considered a club legend even if he moved away in the summer.

He said:

"He is a Champions League player but this club hasn't won a trophy for so long. If this is his last game, what a sad way to go out. He is an absolute legend and all we see is sad faces and empty spaces. That is what has become of Tottenham."

Dimitar Berbatov, another former Spurs player, believes that Kane will not force his way out of Spurs as he would not want to tarnish his reputation there. He opined:

"I can understand and relate to his situation. I feel for him, but at the same time I think he is going to stay at Spurs. His legacy now is so great that he cannot force himself to tarnish it - when you say Spurs, it is Harry Kane and when you say Harry Kane, it is Spurs. They are connected forever."
