Lionel Messi's wife Antonela Roccuzzo shared a story on Instagram following the Argenine legend's 46th career trophy win on Wednesday, October 2. He played a key role as Inter Miami secured a 3-2 win over Columbus to clinch the MLS Supporters' Shield for the first time in their history.
Following the win, Antonela shared the Herons' post declaring the club the Supporters' Shield champions. Messi has been in outstanding form for the MLS side since arriving at the club in the summer of 2023. The 37-year-old helped them win the Leagues Cup, the first trophy in their history, last year.
He has helped them qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs this season by clinching the Supporters' Shield. The Argentine ace has been on fire this season, scoring 17 goals and setting up 10 more in 17 MLS games.
Messi has picked up the 46th trophy of his career and remains the men's football player with the most trophies. His cabinet includes some of the most sought-after silverware, including the Champions League and the FIFA World Cup.
On Wednesday, Inter Miami needed a win against Columbus to confirm their position at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference table. They had arrived at the game on the back of three back-to-back draws, generating worry among fans.
However, with Antonela Roccuzzo cheering him on from the stands, Lionel Messi took matters into his own hands. He scored a brace, including a stunning free-kick to help the Herons finish at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference table. Luis Suarez scored the other goal to seal a memorable win.
Antonela Roccuzzo is the constant throughout Lionel Messi's career
Antonela Roccuzzo has been a constant in Lionel Messi's life. The pair apparently met during the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's time at Barcelona and went public with their relationship in 2009.
The Argentine striker tore opponents apart on the pitch, winning trophies galore. Messi tied the knot with Antonela in 2017 and won the 2021 Copa America with La Albiceleste, the Finalissima in 2022, and the coveted 2022 FIFA World Cup. The six-time European Golden Shoe winner also won the Copa America this year.
All in all, Lionel Messi has won six trophies with Argentina across age groups, 35 with Barcelona, three with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and two more with Inter Miami. Central to his success on the pitch, of course, has been Antonela Roccuzzo.
