Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes namedropped Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo when asked to name the greatest athlete in the world.

He didn't stick to football as Fernandes named top athletes from different sports. However, he first picked Ronaldo, a player with whom the midfielder has played 103 matches across competitions for club and country, bagging nine joint goal contributions.

In an interview with Pro Direct Soccer, Fernandes said:

"The greatest athlete in the world? That's difficult. Obviously, in Portugal, we have Cristiano. Then you end up having Michael Jordan. Then you go to many other things, Michael Phelps could be one, Tiger Woods could be another one. Federer could be another one."
"I think these ones, all of them in different sports have showed their qualities."

Of course, all the players Fernandes named have excelled in their respective fields. However, Woods and Ronaldo are the only two among the lot who are still playing competitive sports.

The 39-year-old Al-Nassr striker is currently with Portugal for the European Championships. He's achieved a fair bit during his long career, winning the Ballon d'Or award on five occasions.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid man has won five UEFA Champions League trophies while having been crowned Premier League champion thrice. He's also a two-time Serie A and La Liga winner, among other honors.

Ronaldo will next be in action for Portugal in their final group match against Georgia on Wednesday (June 26).

Cristiano Ronaldo's former Real Madrid teammate Sami Khedira recently picked ex-Arsenal star Mesut Ozil as the best player he's ever seen, snubbing the former in the process.

Ronaldo and Khedira played 174 matches together at the Santiago Bernabeu and for Juventus, bagging seven joint goal contributions in the process. However, he said in an interview with Rio Ferdinand's FIVE (via Now Arsenal):

"For me, personally he was the best player (Ozil) I've ever seen. Technical-wise and his vision, you know, his first touch and his movement between the lines, and to understand the game and how to give passes to the strikers- the best I've ever seen."

Ozil, who is now retired, is most popularly known for his stint with the Gunners. He played 254 matches across competitions for the north London side, bagging 44 goals and 75 assists.
