Chelsea are reportedly exploring the Brazilian market to bolster their squad for the upcoming seasons. They are already set to sign Palmeiras' young talent Estevao Willian in 2025 and Gremio's Gabriel Mec in 2026. Now, they have put their eyes on another Brazilian wonderkid - Joan Pedro Chermont.
Chermont notably plays for Santos, a club which was previously represented by Neymar Jr and Brazilian legend Pele. As per Brazilian media outlet UOL, Chelsea are monitoring the performances of Chermont, who is just 18. Moreover, it is learnt that the Premier League side had also sent a scout to Santos' game against Operario which was played in September.
The report claims that Chelsea had made a bid in the region of 6 million Euros, only to see that rejected by Santos. But, the Blues might come back to the Brazilian Serie B side with an improved offer in January, when the window opens.
Joao Pedro Chermont, who plays as a right-back for Santos, has penned a new contract in March which runs till 2027. It is said that his contract has a release clause of 70 million Euros, a mind-boggling amount for a youngster. It is also understood that Santos won't be settling for any fee less than that.
Chermont is highly rated at Santos. He has already claimed a spot in the starting line-up and has scored two goals and provided three assists in 24 matches this season. Santos currently sit second in the Serie B and Chermont, who is currently representing the Brazil U-20 side, will be eager to help his team win the league and get themselves back into the Brazilian Serie A.
