Liverpool fans have tipped their hats to Joel Matip for his first-half display against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday. The centre-back produced an outstanding pass that led to the opening goal at the Amex Stadium, netted by January signing Luis Diaz.

Matip, who was adjudged as Premier League's Player of the Month for February, unleashed the defense-splitting pass just around the 19th minute. The Cameroonian looked up and pinged the ball in behind the Brighton defense for Diaz, who expertly stayed onside before racing through on goal.

Despite being hacked down by the hosts' goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, Diaz managed to poke the ball into the back of the net with his head. It was only the second time the Colombian forward scored for Liverpool following his move from Porto.

Although there was plenty to admire about the bravery shown by Diaz, fans were also quick to notice how Matip set the goal up so effortlessly.

Shortly after the opening goal, one fan tweeted:

"Everything he touches turns to gold lately"

Here are some of the other reactions to that incredible pass from Matip:

Liverpool entered the half-time interval with their one-goal advantage intact. Jurgen Klopp's men were then handed a glorious opportunity to double their lead shortly after the hour-mark in the second half.

Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma was punished for handling the ball inside the penalty area and Mohamed Salah stepped up to convert the spot-kick with a powerful effort.

At the time of writing, Klopp and company are safely holding onto their 2-0 lead over Brighton.

Robert Sanchez lucky to be on the pitch despite Liverpool claim for red card

Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez will consider himself lucky to have escaped punishment for the aforementioned challenge on Luis Diaz. Astonishingly, the Spaniard did not even receive a yellow card, despite VAR assessing the whole incident.

Liverpool fans and players would feel hard done by the decision. However, as long as they keep winning, it is not something that is expected to dominate the headlines. Should they hold on to their advantage, the Merseyside club can reduce the gap with Manchester City to three points again.

The Reds will be determined to push their arch-rivals till the end in the chase for the Premier League title. Both Manchester City and Liverpool will face each other at the Etihad Stadium on 10 April, meaning the title-race is still wide open.
