Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has backed Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets to become an exceptional manager. The Spaniard believes that his former player has all the brains to take charge of teams.

Guardiola has seen two of his former players become successful managers this season in different leagues. Xavi has won La Liga with Blaugrana, while Vincent Kompany won Championship with Burnley - both dominating their leagues in fine fashion.

Speaking to the media today (May 23) ahead of Manchester City's clash against Brighton & Hove Albion, Guardiola was asked about Busquets. He heaped praise on the Barcelona legend and said via Manchester Evening News:

"No, this type of club is never end of an era. Players arrive and leave. His impact as holding midfielder in 15-20 years is massive. This club has the talent to reorganise and rebuild."
"One title is not enough, Barcelona is difficult, they were able to win La Liga but lose the CL semi-final and is a disaster season. All the club push for the next steps, that's when you become one of the best clubs in the world."

He added:

"He was the best, reads everything that happens, anticipated the situations. Didn't move much from the centre, could solve all the problems with his brain. Fascinating to work with him and learn of him. I said privately, but I wish him... he will become an exceptional manager."

Busquets played 191 matches under Guardiola at the Catalan side and was a vital part of his starting XI.

Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets set for next step

Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets reportedly has offers from Inter Miami and Al-Hilal as both clubs look to bolster their squad in the summer. They are yet to agree on a deal with the Spaniard but are confident of getting him to sign the deal soon.

Speaking to Barcelona's social media accounts, Busquets said announcing his decision to leave:

"The time has come to announce that this will be my last season with Barca. It has been an unforgettable journey. I always dreamed of playing with this shirt and at this stadium and reality has exceeded all my dreams."
"It has been an honour, a dream, a source of pride and meant everything to defend and represent this badge for so many years. Although it has not been an easy decision I think the time has come."

The exit of Busquets has helped Blaugrana save a few million in wages as they look to reduce it before signing Lionel Messi.
