Liverpool are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to retain Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the defender’s future hanging in the balance as his contract approaches its June 2025 expiry. Real Madrid is circling, ready to swoop in January when Alexander-Arnold will be eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs.

The Reds’ hierarchy is reportedly bending over backwards to secure the 26-year-old to a new long-term deal.

According to sources close to the club, Liverpool has tabled a mega-money offer designed to fend off suitors and emphasize the player's importance to the team.

Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider, emphasized the scale of the effort being made:

"Liverpool are trying everything to convince Alexander-Arnold. They’re going to bend over backwards to keep him at the club. From what I’ve heard, they’re willing to put mega money on the table because they don’t want to lose him."

Brown also pointed out the financial and emotional stakes for Liverpool, saying:

"They’ll consider, as well, how much it would cost to replace him. In a situation like this, offering him higher wages may help them save money. The perception of the fans matters too – they must be seen to be doing all they can. If they do everything in their remit to tie him down to a new deal and he still leaves, that’s his choice, and the fans will have to accept it. But if he’s just allowed to walk away without much of an effort to keep him, there’ll be issues."

The Spanish giants are monitoring the situation closely, with Alexander-Arnold seen as a natural fit for their squad.

The opportunity to join one of football’s most storied clubs could prove tempting for the England international, especially with his versatility making him a prized asset.

The Reds are grappling with more than just Alexander-Arnold’s future.

Contracts for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also expire in June 2025, creating a sense of urgency for the club to secure its key players.

However, Alexander-Arnold’s situation appears the most precarious, with speculation suggesting he is the likeliest to depart.

As January approaches, the Merseyside club's negotiations are intensifying.

The club’s determination to keep their homegrown star is clear, but whether Alexander-Arnold will commit his future to Anfield remains uncertain.

Should he leave, it would mark a significant loss for Arne Slot's system, particularly after Alexander-Arnold’s recent evolution into a hybrid midfield role.

Can Liverpool convince their homegrown hero to stay, or will Trent Alexander-Arnold embark on a new chapter under the lights of the Bernabéu? Only time will tell.
