Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol picked the bigger legend for the Reds between Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah. The former of the two served his boyhood club until 2015 and has undertaken coaching jobs following his retirement.

On the other hand, the Egypt international currently represents the Merseyside outfit and has a year left on his contract at Anfield. Up until this point, Salah has played 352 matches across all competitions, bagging 214 goals and 92 assists.

He's won a Premier League trophy and the UEFA Champions League once each, among other honors. Meanwhile, Gerrard won the Champions League once while making 710 appearances across competitions for the Reds and scored on 186 occasions.

Comparing the two, Nicol told ESPN FC:

"Gerrard (is the bigger Liverpool legend compared to Salah in my opinion). What separates them is that Gerrard carries the whole team on his back."
"Without Salah's goals, Liverpool probably don't have a Champions League and Premier League, but the 10 (players) around him were better than what Gerrard had (in his team). He carried the team on his back, that's why (he's the bigger legend)."

Currently, Gerrard is serving as the manager for Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq. Meanwhile, Salah has started the new Premier League season in fine fashion for the Reds, netting and assisting thrice each in three matches.

Expect the 32-year-old winger to start for his team when they face Nottingham Forest on Saturday (September 14). Salah and compamy., are second on the league standings, level on points with leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah reportedly wishes to extend his stay at Anfield beyond the summer of 2025. This is according to the Echo, which claims that the Egyptian's family and himself are very happy in Merseyside.

This would come as wonderful news to Reds fans, given Salah continues to prove his importance to the team despite being over the age of 30. He joined the club in the summer of 2017 from AS Roma for a reported fee of €42 million.

Should the former Chelsea winger decide to move on, Arne Slot doesn't have a natural left-footed replacement on the right wing. This would further emphasize the need to keep a player like Salah at Liverpool.

Salah has finished as the top Premier League goalscorer on three occasions so far (2017-18, 2018-19, and 2021-22).
