Jamie Carragher has backed Liverpool to beat Arsenal and Manchester City to the Premier League title this season. The pundit has made his top-four predictions as well.
The Premier League giants battled it out in a heated three-horse title race last term, but City eventually emerged victorious.
This term, the Merseysiders find themselves in an outstanding position after 12 games under Arne Slot. Liverpool are eight points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, while Arsenal trail a point further in fourth place.
Carragher has backed his former club to lift their second top-flight title of the Premier League era. The pundit told Sky Sports (via Football365):
“I actually think Arsenal might finish above Manchester City because of the problems they have got in midfield."
"I’m going to go Liverpool to win the league now. I think it will be the bookies’ favourite and they have got a sizable lead. I still think it’s obviously going to be a tight run-in, whether that’s Manchester City trying to get at them or Arsenal coming back at them as well."
The former defender also backed Tottenham Hotspur to secure a top-four finish:
"I went for Arsenal second, Liverpool third and Tottenham Hotspur fourth. Liverpool and Arsenal will be in there. I just hope one of them is at the top end of the table.”
The Gunners travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham United this Saturday (November 30) while Slot's men host Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
Rio Ferdinand picks his PL winners between Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has also tipped the Merseysiders to lift the Premier League title this season.
The pundit insists that Slot's side remain the favorites to win the league given their eight-point gap even before taking this weekend's showdown into consideration. He said on TNT Sports:
"Before a ball is kicked at the weekend, if you had to put your money on anybody winning the league and the Champions League then L'pool would be your first bets, I’m sure right now. They’re favourites. I’m not saying they will but right now they will be favourites. That means there is confidence brimming here, you can feel there is an anticipation before a ball is even kicked in the stadium."
Liverpool have been in extraordinary form this season, winning 10 of their 12 league fixtures so far, while City have had five consecutive losses and a draw in their last six games.
Ferdinand feels the City vs Liverpool clash on Sunday is coming at the perfect time for the Reds. He added:
"There is a confidence from the fans, to the players, to the manager, and there seems to be a quiet authority when they’re playing now, with and without the ball. They’re looking in a real good state at the moment but I think they’re meeting Manchester City at a perfect time for L'pool. They’re in form, City are struggling, they can’t buy a win at the moment, and if you’re a betting man then you would bet on L'pool beating City at the weekend."
