Jamal Musiala has picked Cristiano Ronaldo as the footballer he would like to have dinner with over Lionel Messi and Neymar. The German was quick to highlight that the language barrier was the key reason why he picked the Portuguese superstar.
Speaking to DAZN Football, Musiala said he likes to talk over dinner, and that was the only reason he would pick Ronaldo over any other top footballer in history. He said (via Republic World):
"It is hard because you can say, like, Messi or Neymar and stuff, but the language, it wouldn't be a talkative dinner. I'd say [Cristiano] Ronaldo."
However, Musiala named Messi as his GOAT when quizzed by BayernTV in 2024. He had said (via OneFootball):
"For me, Lionel Messi has to be the GOAT. There are things that no one but him can really do."
Musiala does see both Messi and Ronaldo as inspirations in his career. He mentioned them as footballers he grew up watching, and they are the reason why he wants to win the Ballon d'Or. In 2024, he said (via Bayern & Germany's X handle):
"Yes, that's my goal. When you grow up and see Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo holding the award, every player wants to be up there at some point. But the important thing is not to put myself under pressure, just to play and try to win titles with FC Bayern and the national team. Then maybe one day I'll have the chance to win it."
Jamal Musiala could face Lionel Messi at the FIFA Club World Cup this month in the United States. Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr haven't qualified for the tournament, though he has been linked with a move to Botafogo and Wydad Casablanca, who are participating. The 40-year-old has not yet signed a new deal with the Saudi Pro League side.
Bayern Munich boss hits back with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi comparison for Jamal Musiala
Vincent Kompany was not happy with the comments from former player Toni Kroos, who suggested that Bayern Munich were too dependent on Jamal Musiala. The Bayern Munich boss was quick to recall that Barcelona and Real Madrid relied on Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, respectively. He said (via GOAL):
"Weren't Real Madrid dependent on Ronaldo? Weren't Barcelona dependent on Messi? Jamal has so much quality, so it's normal that a lot of things are being spoken about him. He's definitely a special player and of course he's important for us. But Michael Olise, for example, also has a lot of goals and assists. Of course there aren't that many players with 15 goals, but the goals were shared between them."
Jamal Musiala has played 203 times for the Bundesliga side, scoring 61 times and assisting 39 times. He joined them from the Chelsea academy after his family relocated in 2019.
