Manchester United legend Gary Neville makes surprise prediction when asked to name this season's Premier League winners

Gary Neville backs Arsenal to win the Premier League.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has backed Arsenal to win the Premier League title in the 2023-24 season.

The Gunners came close to winning the title last season. They led the table for a record 248 days before their erratic form towards the end of the campaign allowed Manchester City to win the league by five points.

Arsenal haven't won the league since the 2003-04 season, when Arsene Wenger led them to an invincible Premier League campaign. But Neville feels that the north London giants will finally win the title again after a two-decade wait.

In a Q& A session on X, a fan asked Neville to predict this year's Premier League champion. Neville replied by writing 'Arsenal'.

Arsenal currently sit third in the league with 21 points to their name, trailing Manchester City on goal difference and league leaders Tottenham Hotspur by two points. Alongside Spurs, the Gunners are the only unbeaten team in the Premier League this season.

While Tottenham have had a strong start, recent history suggests Manchester City will be the team to beat once again this season. The Cityzens have won five of the last six league titles on offer. Arsenal, meanwhile, have finished as runners-up on three occasions since they last lifted the Premier League trophy.

Arsenal return to winning ways with won over Sevilla after 2-2 Premier League draw against Chelsea

Arsenal secured a close-fought 2-1 UEFA Champions League group stage win against Sevilla on 21 October at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Gabriel Martinelli scored in the first-half stoppage time after finishing off a lightning-quick counterattack. Gabriel Jesus, who assisted Martinelli's goal, got his name on the score sheet in the 53rd minute after putting his curling shot into the top corner from a difficult angle.

Nemanja Gudelj's headed goal from an Ivan Rakitic corner kick around the hour mark complicated matters for the Gunners. Barring a nervy David Raya moment in stoppage time, Arsenal did well to make sure Sevilla did not score a second in front of the home fans.

Arsenal are now top of Group B with six points from two games. Before their win against Los Nervionenses, Mikel Arteta's men beat PSV Eindhoven and lost 2-1 to RC Lens in France — their only defeat so far this term.

Their next match is a home league game against Sheffield United on 28 October. The former will be trying to get back to winning ways in the league after securing a late 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 21 October.

The Blues led 2-0 by the 50th minute but two Arsenal goals within seven minutes leveled the scoreline with six minutes left on the clock.
