Liverpool attacker Federico Chiesa is open to the idea of staying at the club this summer. There has been a lot of speculation about his future throughout his maiden season at Anfield. But Chiesa, in an interview with the Echo, accepted that he was ready to stay put at Anfield.

“The year is over. But it’s an experience I would do again. Soon I will sit down at the table with the club, (my agent) Fali (Ramadani) and my family to find the best solution. I wouldn’t mind staying in Liverpool at all,” said Chiesa.

Chiesa played just 14 matches for Liverpool across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign, and found the back of the net twice. While he missed quite a few matches at the beginning due to an injury, he was later sidelined by coach Arne Slot, who chose other players over the Italian in the starting lineup.

"You accept the choices as a professional and you move on. In the first few months there were many difficulties. If you think that I arrived in Liverpool on August 26 and found myself catapulted to another planet, with other teammates, without having trained with them, but with a trainer, no friendlies, nothing. And, if you remember, in the autumn Liverpool were going three times as fast as the others, an incredible intensity," added Chiesa.

"The desire to play was there, I put it aside, I understood the situation" - Liverpool's Federico Chiesa

Throughout the season, Chiesa had been linked with a return to Serie A. Primarily a winger, Chiesa had to compete alongside Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo for a spot in the starting lineup.

“(I was up against) The Golden Ball or one of the candidates for the award (in Mohamed Salah). (On the left) there were Luis Diaz and (Cody) Gakpo. Slot also made me play as a nine. It was Max (Allegri) who changed my position, suggesting that I move to a second striker to score more, and I scored my goals. The desire to play was there, I put it aside, I understood the situation. I put aside every form of individualism," said Chiesa.

"At the beginning I felt the frustration of the radical change and of being far behind the group, then there was the injury. Up until the match against PSG, Liverpool was ahead of everyone, in the semi-final of Carabao and among the favourites in the Champions League, which PSG won. Could I start to discuss the choices of Slot who has always been very respectful towards me, as well as the club?" he added.

The Reds had one of their best seasons in 2024-25, winning the Premier League, but missed out on glory in the UEFA Champions League and domestic cup competitions. Chiesa will aim to cement his berth in the Reds' squad in the upcoming season, with the hope of winning a recall to the Italy side ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Before arriving in England, Chiesa scored 32 goals and provided 23 assists for Juventus in 131 matches across competitions. For his former club Fiorentina, Chiesa had found the back of the net on 34 occasions and assisted 26 goals in 153 games. He has represented Italy on 52 occasions so far, scoring seven goals and also winning the 2020 European Championship under Roberto Mancini.
