Chelsea legend John Terry has named Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney, and Harry Kane as the toughest opponents he has faced in the Premier League. He claims that the Arsenal legend is the best he has had to defend and feared him the most.
Terry went on to name his countryman Rooney as the second-best and claimed that the Manchester United legend was phenomenal. The former Chelsea captain went on to name Aguero and Kane as the next best and told Premier League's official website:
"Thierry Henry was the best I came up against, the one I feared the most. Next has to be Wayne Rooney. He was a top, top player and what he achieved was incredible. I don’t know if it gets overlooked a little bit just how good Wayne was when he first broke into the England team. I remember playing against him in the Premier League and having him as a teammate in the England sessions. He was phenomenal.
"I’d also say Sergio Aguero or Harry Kane were difficult to come up against."
John Terry played 717 matches for Chelsea during his career and lifted the Premier League title five times. He was named as the latest inductee into the Hall of Fame on Monday, April 22.
John Terry claims Chelsea 2004-05 were as good as Arsenal's Invincibles
John Terry went on to talk about Chelsea's stunning record in the 2004-05 squad when they conceded just 15 goals in the season. They had lost just once that season – a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City – and he believes that the record was as good as Arsenal's Invincibles.
He told the Premier League's official website:
"I'm going to upset a couple of people here, but I think that season was as good as the Invincibles season for Arsenal. They drew an awful lot of games. We only lost once, away to Man City, Paulo Ferreira gave away a penalty early on in the game and we should have come back and won the game."
Terry added:
"When you look at the goals we conceded that year, we conceded against sides you wouldn't expect if I'm honest and that's no disrespect to them. Looking back today. That could have maybe been nine or 10 goals conceded. 'I don't think it's a record that's ever going to be beaten if I'm honest."
John Terry left Chelsea in 2017 and played a season for Aston Villa in the Championship. He became their assistant manager after calling it quits in 2018 and left in 2021 when Dean Smith was sacked.
