Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has opened up on his team's Premier League clash against defending champions Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday (December 1).
The Reds, who finished third last campaign, are currently atop the Premier League table with 31 points from 12 games. They came back from behind to register a 3-2 victory at Southampton earlier this Sunday.
After the end of the encounter, Salah was asked to opine on Liverpool's position in the 2024-25 Premier League table. He replied to Sky Sports (h/t liverpoolfc.com):
"It's [a] great [feeling]. Hopefully, we keep going in this direction. We have a game against [Manchester City next] so hopefully, we win it and go ahead [of them] more, 11 points. Manchester City is Manchester City... they [are having] a bad time now but they are going to strike back. They have a great coach, great players. Hopefully, we can beat them and go further [ahead]."
Manchester City, who are currently second with 23 points from 12 games, are on a five-match losing streak across competitions. They have scored just four goals and conceded 14 goals in their last five total games.
Liverpool, meanwhile, boast a poor head-to-head record against the Cityzens. The Reds have registered four wins, six draws, and six defeats in their last 16 matches across competitions against Pep Guardiola's side.
Former Watford forward Troy Deeney suggests Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is not world class
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Watford star Troy Deeney claimed that Mohamed Salah is not a world class footballer despite the Egyptian's stellar start to the term. He said:
"I just don't think he's world class. But world class is just a different opinion, what I think of world class is would I want my kids to play like that player? That's what I think is world class. If I was asking my kids who want to be forwards, I would like them to look at what Vinicius Junior does. [Salah] scores an unbelievable amount of goals, he's highly effective, but that's just my opinion."
Salah, 32, has been in brilliant form for Arne Slot's outfit since the start of the term. He has found the back of the net 12 times and contributed 10 assists in 18 outings across competitions for the Reds this season.
Vinicius Junior, who finished second in the 2024 Ballon d'Or list, has registered 12 goals and eight assists in 18 total appearances for Real Madrid this campaign. He has never outscored the Egyptian in a season.
