Gabriel Agbonlahor has backed Arsenal to win the Premier League title after the imminent signing of Eberechi Eze. He heaped praise on the Englishman and compared him to the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
As per journalist David Ornstein, the Gunners are set to sign Eze for a reported fee of £60 million + £7.5 million in add-ons. Their arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, were heavily linked with a move for the Englishman. They also agreed on a fee with Crystal Palace on August 20, but Eze chose to join his boyhood club instead.
Reacting to the news on talkSPORT, Gabriel Agbonlahor claimed that Arsenal will win the Premier League title this season, saying:
“He’s an outstanding player. I was surprised that the season started, and top clubs weren’t trying to get him. His release clause was £68 million. I’m seeing [Matheus] Cunha and [Bryan] Mbeumo getting these moves, and he’s better than all of them."
“That’s going to be an outstanding signing for Arsenal, and I believe this move wins Arsenal the Premier League, I really do, mate. That left side has been a problem.”
Eze will be the Gunners' seventh senior signing this summer. They have signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Cristhian Mosquera.
Ex-Tottenham star goes on a rant as Arsenal edge closer to Eberechi Eze
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O'Hara slammed the club hierarchy after they missed out on Eberechi Eze. Spurs were in pole position to sign the Englishman, but have reportedly lost out to arch-rivals Arsenal. They had also missed out on signing Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest earlier this summer.
"I'm going to lose my head... I'm disappointed in Tottenham, we should have had this deal done weeks ago, we should have had it over the line and got it done. As soon as we started the season, we should have had Eze in the team, and do you know what, it serves us right. It serves Daniel Levy right, it serves Spurs right, it's the same old Tottenham, it happens every single season, we're penny-pinchers!"
"It happened again, and we're going to miss out on a top-quality player who's proven in the Premier League. Just pay the money and get the player over the line! We got rid of [Heung-min] Son, [James] Maddison has done his ACL, we needed Eze, we needed him. It's an absolute joke that we're going to lose him to Arsenal of all teams, who are going to waltz in and pay and get it over the line in a couple of hours, it's a joke!"
Spurs have notably lost James Maddison to an ACL injury, while Son Heung-min has joined LAFC this summer.
