Emmanuel Petit has urged Chelsea to buy wingers in the summer window to start competing with the top clubs. He believes that the signing of Liam Delap does not solve their main problem in the squad.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Petit stated that Enzo Maresca's side do not have good wingers, and that should be their main focus. He added that the current wingers do not score or assist enough and the pressure is put on Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson, who leads the attack. He said via METRO:
"I don’t think Liam Delap will be the solution. If you look at the top teams, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and their wingers, those players make the difference all the time. Most people are focusing on the number nine at Chelsea but for me the biggest problem is the wingers."

They need to get a lot more assists and goals as well and they have to be a bigger danger on the pitch. The way Chelsea play, if you don’t have those wingers carrying danger all the time with the ball and putting defenders under pressure, then forget it. You will always be focusing on the striker but the striker depends on the wingers as well."
Cole finished as the club's top scorer in the Premier League this season with 15 goals and 8 assists, despite having a long goal drought in 2025. Nicolas Jackson finished with 10 goals and 5 assists and the two were the only players from Enzo Maresca's side to hit double figures.
Emmanuel Petit hits out at Chelsea wingers
Emmanuel Petit believes Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto, and Tyrique George are not good enough for Chelsea. He believes that the winger should be contributing a lot more and said on talkSPORT via METRO
"For me they are not good enough. They are good players but I think there is something in their mind that is stopping them from reaching the next steps. People have been focusing for years on a big number nine but if I remember well, Chelsea have won Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues with a strong number nine but the wingers were amazing well. This is for me the biggest problem at Chelsea right now."
Chelsea have Estevao Willian coming in this summer, while they are in the market for a left winger too. They declined the option to sign Jadon Sancho after his loan spell last season, while Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended.
