"Victory for the white team. Nothing new" - Ligue 1's official X handle takes cheeky dig at Barcelona following PSG's UCL Q/F win

Ligue 1's official Spanish handle took a dig at Barcelona following their exit from the Champions League at the hands of PSG on Tuesday.

The Parisians won 4-1 at the Olympic Stadium to win their quarter-final tie 6-4 on aggregate and knock Xavi's men out.

Barcelona had picked up a shock 3-2 victory in Paris last week and seemed to be on their way to the last four, before PSG turned the tide in emphatic fashion. Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha and Kylian Mbappe combined to inflict another humiliating defeat on Barca, repeating their result from the Round of 16 in 2021.

Ligue 1 Espanyol, the Spanish account of the French top flight on X, appeared to mock Barcelona. They wrote:

"Victory for the white team. Nothing new. [man shrugging emoji]"

PSG played in their white away kits, and the comment appears to be an indirect reference to the Blaugrana's poor record against Real Madrid in recent times. This season alone, Los Blancos have beaten them twice in two different competitions - a 2-1 away victory in La Liga, followed by a 4-1 thumping in the Spanish Super Cup finals.

As fate would have it, Barcelona's next match is also against Real Madrid, who host them at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Parisians hold the unique record of being the only side to score four times away to Barcelona on two occasions in European history. They next play Borussia Dortmund, who were in the same group as them, in the semi-finals.

Barcelona heading towards another titleless campaign

In the last four years, Barcelona have finished titleless twice. This campaign could end up being the third in five years, following their Champions League exit.

With the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey also long gone, La Liga is the only competition wherein the Spanish champions are currently active. And their chances are slim there too.

Real Madrid are currently eight points clear of them in first place, with only seven games remaining. Xavi's side would need a real miracle to turn the title race back in their favor as winning a trophy this season is not in their hands anymore.
