Liverpool's Cody Gakpo was warned by his teammate Virgil van Dijk for an X-rated comment during an interview. The Reds' duo sat down together for a chat.

They were asked which of the pair was better at shooting drills. While both sounded confident, Gakpo claimed he is in the top three, while the central defender said he is in the top five.

Gakpo went on to say (via the Liverpool Echo):

"We have a shooting drill from the side that you have to get [touch] into the D. Depends on the day really. Some days with a s*** touch and you're out."

The slur prompted his compatriot Van Dijk to send a warning, as the towering defender said:

"Oh watch your language bro, it's BBC here."

Gakpo was quick to make amends for his slip of the tongue as he said:

"Ah, you cannot say this? I'm sorry."

Gakpo joined the Reds in the January transfer window in a move that was deemed a shock by many. The attacker had a great campaign in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring three goals for the Netherlands.

He was also in a rich vein of form for PSV Eindhoven and was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. However, rather surprisingly, he joined the Merseysiders.

Since his move, the 24-year-old has scored six goals and provided three assists in 24 matches for Jurgen Klopp's team and has become a mainstay up front.

When Cody Gakpo joined Liverpool, many believed that his international captain, Virgil van Dijk, had a crucial role to play in the transfer. Gakpo has now revealed how Van Dijk has helped him settle into the new club.

The central defender is one of Jurgen Klopp's side's main players and has been a superstar for quite a while. Hence, it shouldn't come as a surprise that he has taken his compatriot under his wing.

Gakpo said (via the Reds' website):

“He’s helping me, he’s guiding me, I have to say. I don’t think I said it even to him yet but I’m really grateful. He’s like a big brother here to me. From the day I first arrived he’s helping me with everything outside the pitch and inside the pitch. I’m really grateful for that."

Despite signing Cody Gakpo, Liverpool are unlikely to secure a top-four finish this season. They are currently fifth in the Premier League table. The pair will look to have a better campaign next year.
