Reports: Neymar wants Edinson Cavani sold after penalty and free kick bust-up
What's the story?
Neymar has hit the ground running at PSG while Cavani has made a blistering start to this season, but things do not seem very smooth between the pair with multiple reports claiming that the Brazilian superstar wants Cavani sold in the next transfer window.
Neymar and Cavani clashed with each other for free-kick and penalty duties during their side's 2-0 win against Lyon. Neymar took the free-kick ahead of Cavani in a promising area while the Uruguayan ordered Neymar off the ball for the penalty kick.
The Brazilian superstar was reportedly furious with Cavani especially after the striker missed the subsequent spot kick. L'Equipe (via ESPN) even reported that the pair almost came to blows in the dressing room.
With Neymar wanting to be the undisputed star at the Ligue 1 giants, Cavani's insistence on taking penalties and free-kicks seems to have rubbed the former Barcelona star the wrong way.
In case you didn't know...
PSG have made a stunning start to the season with the new trio of Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani dovetailing perfectly on the pitch. However, things seem to have heated up between Cavani and Neymar and the French club will be worried at this public breaking down of relationships.
PSG manager Unai Emery has told them to sort the issue out like adults and it will be interesting to see if Cavani and Neymar do reach a consensus in the following weeks.
Also, Neymar even unfollowed Cavani on Instagram after that incident and it seems like the Brazilian superstar has made his mind up about the Uruguayan sharpshooter.
The heart of the matter
Bought in the summer for a world record transfer fee of 222 million, Neymar will be eager to establish himself and make a mark for his new club. Cavani, on the other hand, has continued his stunning form and is the runaway favourite to win the Golden boot.
Till last season, most of the free-kicks and all of the penalties were taken by Cavani himself, although now with the addition of Neymar, Cavani will have to divide his responsibilities.
The whole free-kick and penalty fight can be seen in this video with even Dani Alves getting involved between the two.
Both Neymar and Cavani are extremely important to PSG and the most mature thing to do will be to sort out their differences and share the free-kicks and penalties in the future.
