Oriol Romeu – Will he get a chance to prove his worth?

If you’re good enough, you’re old enough…” The expression that a certain Arsene Wenger lives by, he hasn’t done so badly when it comes to developing young talented players, right?

With all the young talent currently stockpiled at the Bridge, this could prove to be a very beneficial concept for the club to adopt. Plus with our current spending power and our owner’s relentless thirst for success, we wouldn’t have to worry about falling into the same trap that Arsenal did.

I am convinced that Oriol Romeu is good enough to be starting a fair few games for the Blues, and former manager Andre Villas Boas thought so too. He entrusted the young Spaniard to marshal his midfield, and in my humble opinion the ex-Barcelona man did a pretty good job. After making considerable progress, Romeu was suddenly removed from the club’s immediate plans, leaving us fans perplexed. Unfortunately it seems that our Italian manager doesn’t share the point of view that Romeu has something extra to offer the first team.

Now, we have all seen what our recently acquired youth players are capable of when given a chance. You have to look no further than Eden Hazard (21) and Oscar’s (21) performances this season; with both players making instant impacts early on in their Blues careers.

So, why exactly is Oriol Romeu not being given a chance under Robbie?

  • Could it be a fallout with the manager?
  • A lack of commitment in training?
  • A steep decline in his performances in training?
  • Could we be trying to avoid a potential Barca buy-back clause in his contract?

Who knows?

But with our current central midfield concerns, he would be a welcomed addition to the starting line-up in my book.
