Paolo Di Canio targets two more signings for Sunderland

Manchester City v Sunderland - Barclays Asia Trophy Final

Di Canio is looking for two more additions to his squad, despite already having signed 10 players this summer

Sunderland have already been the busiest Premier League club in the transfer window, with manager Di Canio adding 10 players to his squad, but the Italian told the BBC that he wants to add two more players, a left-sided defender and a playmaker, to his squad.

“If there is a chance then one or two more would be welcome and the club is working on this,” Di Canio said.

“I’m happy up front and at the back and I’m happy in the middle, but we miss something. I hope in the next few days we are going to get something there.”

So far, the Black Cats’ manager has signed goalkeeper Vito Mannone, defenders Ondrej Celustka, Valentin Roberge and Modibo Diakite, midfielders Cabrai, Emanuele Giaccherini, David Karlsson and El-Hadji Ba, as well as striker Duncan Watmore and Jozy Altidore.

The Italian is not worried about having a large squad and is looking to encourage competition for places in the first team.

“I’m not worried about having a large squad because I want to have a chance to choose from a group of five rather than only two,” he added.

“For me it’s important to have players pushing for their place, and the other players have to maintain their place by doing well daily.”
