PEC Zwolle are the surprise leaders of the Dutch Eredivisie after four rounds, having taken a maximum of 12 points.

PEC Zwolle beat SC Cambuur 2-0 to record their fourth consecutive win on Sunday. Substitute Guyon Fernandez opened the scoring in the 69th minute from a rebound, while Rochdi Achenteh made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 78th minute, reported Xinhua.

Ahead of the fourth match-day, PSV were the only other team to have not dropped points, but the Eindhoven based side drew 1-1 at Heracles Almelo on Saturday. Lerin Duarte earned the home team an early lead, but substitute Park Ji-Sung equalised on behalf of PSV.

It is not the first time PEC Zwolle have topped the standings in the Eredivisie. After two match-days in the 1988/1989 season too, PEC were front-runners.

” ‘Can we become champions?’ I would not bet on it. Of course we have to stay realistic. However, PSV lost points and therefore we are on top. We can be proud of that,” Zwolle coach Ron Jans said.

PEC lead the standings with 12 points, two ahead of PSV and five ahead of, among others, FC Twente and Ajax.
