Pep Guardiola has backed Jose Mourinho to turn things around at Manchester United. The duo have been pitched as rivals by the media for a long but things seem to have cooled down between the two.

Speaking to the press ahead of Manchester City's game vs Newcastle United, Guardiola said, “Unfortunately, it's our job, it's happened to me in the past, our job depends on results.”

Continuing to talk about Mourinho, the City manager said, “When we win we are good, when we don't we are not good, it's simple like that. The quality of the managers I believe is when you get to that level, all the managers they are top, top managers.”

Manchester United have only picked up three points from three games this season. They lost to Brighton & Hove Albion and were humbled by Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Monday.

A section of the United fans have been asking the club to sack Mourinho because of the slow star. Guardiola, however, believes that the Red Devils should back the manager as it is still early days in the league.

“They remain a great team, a top team. We're just in August. There are teams above us but there a lot of points to play for and after the international break the real season starts. We dropped two points or we won one point at Wolves. One of the secrets of last season was when we didn't get three points, we won the next game. We didn't get bad results two or three games on the run, which is why we got what we got last season.” said Guardiola.

Some reports claim that United will sack Mourinho should they lost to Burnley this weekend while others say that the club are going to back him for the whole season.
