David Seaman believes the signing of Petr Cech can help Arsenal clinch their first Premier League title in 12 years. The Czech goalkeeper finally completed his much-anticipated transfer from Premier League champions Chelsea on Monday, for a reported £10 million.

Speaking to Metro in an exclusive interview at the beginning of the month, Seaman had heaped lavish praise on Cech, urging Arsene Wenger to sign the keeper if he became available.

He said: “I think Cech in any squad will make them better, I don’t want to put a downer on Ospina or Szczesny, but Cech is a quality goalkeeper and I don’t think he’ll go to any club where he could be considered a no.2.

“‘Wherever he goes he’s going to be a no.1.”

The Arsenal legend got his wish fulfilled after the Czech Republic custodian penned a four-year contract at Arsenal, leaving after 11 trophy-laden seasons at Chelsea. Cech played second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois in the triumphant 2013/14 campaign, and felt the time was right to make a move to continue playing at the highest level.

David Seaman was delighted that Cech chose Arsenal. Speaking to BBC Sport, the former Gunner said, “He must have had a list as long as his arm of clubs to go. So I’m happy he chose Arsenal.”

Cech is a part of the puzzle for Arsenal

The goalkeeping legend feels his former club has got it right and opined that Petr Cech could well prove to be the difference in the title race. The Premier League title has eluded Arsenal ever since The Invincibles topped the 2003/04 table, going through the whole season undefeated.

“Bringing in quality players like Cech is what is needed to win the Premier League. More signings are required but his arrival is a massive boost. He’s part of the jigsaw that’s nearly finished,” he added.

Seaman, who played well into his forties also believes Cech is in top shape to help the Gunners’ cause. He told the BBC: “He’s bang in the prime of his career. He has “got at least another five to six years ahead of him.”

Cech’s arrival at the Emirates could signal the end for either of David Ospina or Wojciech Szczesny. While the latter has impressed with his performances for Colombia at the Copa America, the Polish keeper regained his form towards the latter end of the 2014/15 campaign, keeping a clean sheet in the FA Cup final as well.

Arsenal clinched the 2013/14 FA Cup to end an eight-year wait for a trophy and repeated the feat in the 2014/15 season as well. After the 4-0 triumph over Aston Villa in the 2014/15 final, the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, however, were quick to emphasise the importance of winning the Premier League next season.
