Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has told reporters that Bayern Munich head into their Champions League last 16 clash with Arsenal with last year’s second leg defeat still in their minds.

The German side coasted to a 3-1 win in the first leg, but were stunned by Arsenal during the second. The Gunners recorded a 2-0 win in Munich, but could not overhaul the first leg deficit and exited the competition on away goals.

However, Lahm said that the scare provided by Arsenal means that his side will be taking nothing for granted should they lead the tie this year.

“That game [the 2-0 defeat in Munich] is a warning sign to us,” the Ballon D’or nominee told the Guardian.

“We had been very good in London, we thought nothing can happen to us in the return leg.

“All of a sudden you are 2-0 down and there are still some minutes to play.

“It shows that things can go really quickly in the Champions League. We will have that in the back of our minds.

Lahm continued by admitting that his side had been given a tough draw and insisting that he was not looking any further ahead than the Arsenal game.

“The biggest danger for us, right now, is facing Arsenal in the last 16. It’s a tough draw. A lot can happen in those two games.

“It’ll be two teams that are very good tactically and technically. I’m really looking forward to that game. I think every football fan is.”
