Video: Pique takes a swipe at Real Madrid after UEFA Super Cup victory
Gerard Pique tried to motivate his team-mates by insulting Real Madrid during Barcelona's UEFA Cup celebrations in Georgia
Barcelona’s Gerard Pique used some choice words during side’s celebrations after they won UEFA Super Cup for the fifth time in their history. The centre-back started for the Catalan club as they beat Sevilla 5-4 in the Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
While celebrating the victory with his team, the 28-year-old was heard taking a direct swipe at Real Madrid while trying to motivate his team-mates to show more excitement. Pique loudly announced: "Come on lads, let's celebrate! Madrid can f*** themselves. Let them see us turn this round!", as quoted in The Mirror.
This isn’t the first time Pique has taken a pot-shot at Real Madrid, having previously done so during Barcelona’s celebrations of their treble success. He mocked Cristiano Ronaldo in his victory parade speech by thanking Colombian artist Kevin Roldan, who had performed at Portuguese international’s birthday party just hours after Real Madrid’s 4-0 loss to Atletico Madrid earlier in the season.
The Catalan club beat Sevilla 5-4 in a thrilling UEFA Super Cup match, which saw two stunning free-kicks from Lionel Messi and some brilliant attack-minded football from both teams. They took a 3-1 lead into the break and even scored another early in the second half, but conceded three goals towards the end of the match to force it into extra-time. Pedro scored the final goal five minutes from time to seal the fate of the match.
